On a Whim (for piano trio) explores and passes through different impulsive musical ideas. The piece is a tribute to the renowned Gryphon Trio. In my final year as a Claude Watson arts student at Earl Haig Secondary School, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to compose a piece for the Gryphon Trio as part of their Young Composers program. During our sessions, the trio not only workshopped student pieces but also performed music from different composers. It was through the trio that I was introduced to the music of Christos Hatzis, who became my teacher and mentor through my years at the University of Toronto.
